Vinod,
I just posted another case about video performance anomolies so I thought I would post my thoughts if thats helpful.
So I benched my laptop and got the following results.
A MBP Retina Mid 2012 10.1 (i7-3720QM 2.6GHz, 8Gb RAM, SSD, GeForce GT 650M 1024Mb)
OSX 10.8.2 with Fusion 5.0.1 825449, VMware Tools 9.2.1 818201, VMware SVGA 3D 7.14.1.1210
The virtual image is a Windows 8 64-bit running 1 CPU with 2 Cores, 4Gb RAM, DirectX 9 3D Acceleration turned on.
My WEI Scores were as follows:
Processor 7.1
Memory 7.8
Graphics 5.5
Gaming 5.9
Disk 8.0
Here is what I can tell you.
Scores range from 1.0 to 9.9 under Windows 8.
VMware Fusion will drop your score at least two points on Graphics/Gaming.
The current VMware SVGA driver produces some artifacts and other issues under OSX,
so even if you did get the appearance of a high score, your results may vary as to what you actually experience on the screen.
There is no noticable improvement moving from Fusion 4 to Fusion 5.
To your question about the veracity of marketing, I don't think I can add substantively to the conversation.
I'm not aware of any evidence of VMware's marketing claims. There is probably a reason for that.
Hope that helps.
